Treated well, it lasts several years. Neglected, it degrades in a single season. The good news: care comes down to three habits and needs no special product.

Rinsing with fresh water, the habit everything else depends on.

Inflatable slide care: the two things to do after every outing

The first is rinsing with fresh water. Salt drying on PVC becomes abrasive and gradually attacks the surface, particularly where the material folds. A simple hose is enough, there is no need to scrub.

The second is drying before folding. It is the one most often skipped, and the most important. A slide folded while damp develops marks and mould in the creases that never come out afterwards. Ten minutes in the sun solves it.

No special product is needed. If it gets dirty, a mild soap does the job. Abrasive cleaners, solvents and bleach are to be avoided: they attack the PVC surface and weaken the heat-welded seams.

Inflatable slide care: folding, where lifespan is won or lost

This is the part of inflatable slide care that gets neglected most. A slide always folds along the same lines if you do it without thinking. Those repeated creases create fatigue zones. Varying the fold slightly each time, or rolling rather than folding when there is room, spreads the strain.

Full deflation matters too. A tube left partly inflated during storage puts permanent pressure on the seams. With the pump supplied, it takes less than ten minutes.

Winter storage: preparing for six months out of use

Winter storage for a boat slide is prepared at the end of the season, not at the moment you put it away. The rule is simple: perfectly dry, deflated, stored flat or lightly rolled, away from frost and direct light.

Frost is the real risk. Soft PVC that freezes while folded can crack along the creases. A locker, a garage or a technical room will do. A tarpaulined outside deck will not.

The folded volume stays modest, which leaves the choice between storing on board and storing ashore. When bringing it back into service, a visual inspection of the seams and valves is enough in the vast majority of cases.

Inflatable slide care: repairing a puncture on board

Every Tobo Toys slide comes with a repair kit. It lets you deal with a one-off puncture without sending it back to the workshop, and without interrupting the cruise.

The method does not change: deflate, clean and dry the area, apply the patch well beyond the puncture, let it cure for the time stated before reinflating. The difficulty is not technical, it is resisting the urge to reinflate too soon.

A long tear or a failing seam, on the other hand, belong in the workshop. In that case, better to write with a photo before you try anything: a botched repair makes the next one harder.

What actually wears a slide out

Poor inflatable slide care, and nothing else. It is not the descents or the number of users. A well-designed slide takes heavy charter use without flinching. What wears it out is salt left to dry, folding it damp, and rubbing against a hard point on the boat.

This last point is worth checking at the first installation. A cleat, an aft-deck edge or a fitting touching the tube will eventually create a wear point. A piece of protection in the right place settles it for years.

How long does it last

With regular inflatable slide care, the equipment goes through several operating seasons without losing performance. Models with superior finishes, such as the TOBO SPLASH 90+, age more slowly still: that is exactly what the price difference buys.

For a charter operator, that longevity changes the maths. Equipment replaced every five years instead of every two halves its annual cost, with nothing changing for the guest.

The most common questions about our equipment are gathered on our FAQ page, and the folding and repair videos are published on our Instagram account.

Rinsing, drying, folding, winter storage, repairs: the habits that make a boat slide last several seasons instead of just one.

[1

post-898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-guides-tobo
["GET
